Tips for using loans wisely to start a law practice are discussed. Debt can be a fiscally responsible business tool, but before approaching a loan officer, but sole practitioners should come armed with a plan showing why they need the money and how they will repay it.

Issues are discussed regarding the investments of some sole practitioners and start-up firms in start-up firms from the Internet world, hoping to reap the windfall profits larger firms have reaped with this practice. A limit on the amount of work the two will do for a share in a start-up firm rather than for cash should exist.

Getting paid in trade; barter can be a boon for cash-strapped practitioners
Article Abstract:
Bartering can have great advantages for sole practitioners trying to start a business and other cash-strapped attorneys. One advantage is it engenders loyalty from clients because it shows them the attorney's willingness to serve them even though they may not immediately have the cash. Nothing in the ABA Mode Code of Professional Responsibility requires that legal fees be only cash, although dealings with a client must always be at arm's length.
