Verdicts: the big numbers of 1994
Article Abstract:
Notable verdicts of 1994 are surveyed. Seventy-two verdicts of $10 million or more are covered and of these, 30 were either reduced, set aside or proved largely impossible to collect. Trial judges tend to look askance at large punitive damage awards, and many reductions were made by judges at this level. Most of the survey is a listing by case type, with attorneys, amount of jury award and brief descriptions of cases.
