Diallo family looks for its second act; after acquittals, civil lawyers, feds consider their legal options

Other causes of action under consideration by the family of Amadou Diallo after loss of the criminal trial of the police officers accused of killing their son are discussed. These include a federal civil rights prosecution and a civil suit seeking damages, but both would present problems and the history of second attempts after notorious acquittals does not look promising.

The use of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act against militant abortion opponents is discussed, with defense attorneys relying on the First Amendment to challenge the use of RICO. The US Courts of Appeals for the 7th and 9th Circuits are hearing the cases.

Suits filed in various states using the equal-access reasoning of the Supreme Court's Bush v.
