Mike's friendly Microsoft takeover; how one lawyer got control of all those M'soft class actions
Article Abstract:
The success of attorney Michael D Hausfeld in gaining control of most of the 96 class actions pending against the Microsoft Corp is discussed. A lawyer scorecard as M'soft trial ends; herein, the NLJ list of winners and losers
Article Abstract:
The Microsoft Corp antitrust trial is nearing its close in July 1998 and the National Law Journal offers its assessment of lawyers' performances. Michael Lacovara of New York's Sullivan and Cromwell is the bright spot in a disastrous defense. William H Neukom, Microsoft's general counsel, definitely did not help his employer's case. David Boies, representing the Justice Department, became a star in this trial and formed his own firm, Boies and Schiller. Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson received high grades from those who followed the trial, deftly questioning witnesses and allowing ample leeway to lawyers on both sides.
