Dispute over custody gets really personal: actress Tonya Pinkins thinks the judge is biased. The judge thinks she's just disgruntled
Article Abstract:
Tonya Pinkins uncovered a novel strategy for her child-custody battle after an acrimonious divorce, then sued New York State Supreme Court Justice Lewis R. Friedman when he rejected it. Pinkins, an actress, also says the legal system is heavily skewed against pro se like herself. She claims the judge is biased against her due to her race or gender. The divorce from her first marriage was signed but not entered before she began the marriage leading to the present dispute. She says Friedman has no jurisdiction in her case.

Dad's rights advocates come of age: once just an angry fringe, now they target custody, welfare and child support laws
Article Abstract:
Father's rights groups have become more organized and are now focussing attention on child custody, welfare and child support laws. They seek to make joint custody, in which each parent takes care of the child for a period of time, more common. They also want a law that would tie the enforcement of child support payments to the enforcement of visitation rights. Women's groups see the movement as an attempt by men to have more control in the battle for marital property.
