NoteMap, an example of the outlining software emerging on the market which should be attractive to lawyers is discussed. With a few feature enhancements, the product should become a partial substitute for PowerPoint. The export to Word usually works well, and text pastes into NoteMap reasonably well. All lawyers should have this product.

A well-kept litigation database is useful in trial, and the choices are either buying a general database package, such as Microsoft Access, and customizing it, or investing in a database specifically designed to support litigation, such as Amicus. Lawyers with general packages must design the details to suit the way they practice rather than relying on the software package to do the job.
