Environment report
Article Abstract:
The environment is a major sector of interest for the UK presidency, although it is not a key priority. It wants to pursue the undertaking to include environmental considerations in all its policies, but the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) regrets the lack of ecological taxation and public transport initiatives. With regard to the environment and employment, the Commission argues that newer styles of production and the use of cleaner technologies will be of benefit to employment and the environment. A continuing problem is non-compliance with EU environmental law.

Environment report
Article Abstract:
The environment will be one of the top priorities for the Austrian presidency which took over in July, and topics of the environment council will include climate change, employment and the environment, water and release of genetically modified organisms into the environment. A new harmonization strategy to monitor environmental performance has been adopted by the Commission, and a major challenge is the transposition of EU rules in national rules.
