Lost army's final battle is waged in U.S. courts: U.S.-sponsored raiders often ended up in North Vietnam's prisons. Now they want back pay
Article Abstract:
Recruitment of Vietnamese commandos by the CIA and the Pentagon may have triggered the Vietnam War, and has led to recent suits seeking compensation by those raiders who survived captivity. The US recruited 400 to 500 saboteurs and commandos, virtually all of whom were captured or killed, beginning in 1962, two years before an allegedly unprovoked attack by North Vietnamese forces started the war. Some who escaped and came to the US in the 1980s have filed suits seeking pay and damages.
