FDA's taxing authority extended to year 2003
Article Abstract:
The enactment of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Regulatory Modernization Act of 1997 that extends the taxation power of the FDA. The new law extends the Prescription Drug User Fee Act of 1992 until year 2003. Although the law was intended to hasten the FDA's drug approval process, the user fees imposed are actually taxes that pharmaceutical firms are required to pay for services they do not want and are already paid by the consumers. The law only promotes more government bureaucracy and exemplifies legalized bribery.
