Fen-Phen victims may die before MDL ends; federal judge is considering creating a fast track for most seriously ill plaintiffs
Article Abstract:
Many plaintiffs' lawyers in the fen-phen litigation fear the multidistrict track will slow their cases, while the plaintiffs with life-threatening illnesses fear they will die before the suit ends. Primary pulmonary hypertension, a sometimes life-threatening disease of the heart and lungs, afflicts about 2 dozen of these plaintiffs and is sometimes linked to diet drug use. This type of litigation can sometimes take years to complete and one of the judges is reported to be ready to remand the cases of extremely ill plaintiffs.
