Finding out about search engines
Article Abstract:
Three CD-ROM search engines are compared. West Group's Premise text search and retrieval software used in conjunction with Siegel's New York Practice legal case management software leverages West's powerful editorial capabilities to provide users with several search, information management and display capabilities. The Premise search template simplifies searching within Siegel treatise and the Premise search dialog provides diverse search options. Reed Elsevier's Folio Views 4.0, one of the most popular document management software packages in both legal and business markets, is used in conjunction with all Michie products. Michie's Virginia Law on Disc legal case management software features Folio-supported capabilities such as wildcard, field searching, Boolean logic searching and ordered and unordered proximity searching. CD Law's Washington Law on Disc is a viable alternative to Premise- and Folio Views-based legal case management software for computer literate users.

LawQuest: Networked matter management
Article Abstract:
Bridgeway Software's LawQuest, a Windows-based project management package for legal departments, greatly simplifies project management tasks. Its graphical user interface is highly intuitive, yet very detailed. To add a new legal matter to the networked system, users only click on a folder to see a blank input form. A new number is automatically assigned to the matter, and the information is simple to enter. There are many ways to search for and retrieve data, and the package relies heavily on lookup tables to make operation even simpler. Although it can work as a standalone system, LawQuest offers especially powerful network features.
