Forging a Far East alliance; initiatives aim to foster stronger legal structures in China
Article Abstract:
China's momentum to develop legal structures is growing as the country's economy continues to evolve into one of the world's largest, and the ABA hopes to serve the advancement of the rule of law in the country. Law-related activities include a joint venture with the China University of Politics and Law to establish an education center training Chinese lawyers in US business law, discussions with the Chinese Ministry of Justice on possible ABA assistance in setting up a legal aid program in China, and a trial demonstration project involving members of the ABA and the German Judges Foundation.

Pointed argument: House passes needle exchange policy over intense opposition
Article Abstract:
The ABA House of Delegates approved a policy supporting the removal of legal barriers to needle exchange programs after controversial discussions about whether the ABA should involve itself in non-legal issues. Supporters of the policy felt that the ABA should lend its weight to an issue that can save lives. The policy itself does not endorse needle exchange programs but rather asks for the removal of federal barriers so programs can be discussed at state and local levels.
