Getting on the Web made easy
Article Abstract:
Microsoft's $149 Front Page 97 is a powerful Web site creation tool. FrontPage 97 includes an Editor feature that enables users to develop Web pages and an Explorer component that allows users to join several Web pages while linking them together with other Web sites. Microsoft's Personal Web Server helps users place and manage their Web sites and its Image Composer uses graphics and manipulation capabilities to create on-screen images. FrontPage 97's HTML-independent components enable users to construct and manage their Web sites comparably to word processor documents. The program is both similar to and compatible with Microsoft's Word and Office packages. FrontPage includes several Templates and Wizards to enhance Web pages with sophisticated additions and it supports Java applets, ActiveX Controls and various browser plug-ins. Some inexperienced Web developers may, however, find FrontPage's abundant features overwhelming.

Complete California business resource
Article Abstract:
Continuing Education of the Bar Business Practice Library is an extensive electronic version of all Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) print publications that relate to business. This addition to the CD-ROM Practice Library series is available for $750 for the first year and an additional $300 per year thereafter. The CEB, put out by California's Continuing Education of the Bar, also includes various forms that apply to most business agreements and transactions. The CD provides access to both statute and case law full text via its straightforward navigation tools. CEB Business, however, along with the other CEB Practice Libraries, features simplistic forms that are not easily adaptable to more complex, specialized transactions. The product enables users to track research time by client and to transfer that data to their time and billing applications.

Backing up data online
Article Abstract:
@Backup Corp's @Backup automatically backs up data at night. The user simply leaves the computer on and connected to a phone line when leaving the office. @Backup scans the hard drive to identify new data that needs to be backed up. The software copies the data, compresses it and encrypts it before dialing @Backup's remote computer. The compressed data is transferred and a second copy is created and stored at another remote site. When files are altered, @Backup backs up the changes, not the entire file, which shortens backup times. The software is used to access the remote computer in order to retrieve files. @Backup charges a monthly $29.95 fee for the service. A nightly virus scan costs another $5 per month. Retrieval is free, up to 5MB.
