Growing pains of major Web sites broadcast problems and potential
Article Abstract:
Legal World Wide Web sites of size and long standing reveal positive developments and problems in online legal research., and THOMAS and EDGAR are cases in point. Much information on the progress of legislative bills can be obtained on THOMAS, while the SEC's Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval System (EDGAR), retrieves raw data without organization. Technical problems with its search engines abound. FindLaw has all US Supreme Court and circuit court cases in its database, and its fee-based competition is VersusLaw.

Seek and you won't find: why Web search engines are weak
Article Abstract:
Web search engines are designed for the general user and are thus merely a good place to start legal research or good to use when an attorney wants to find a very recent or specific federal court ruling. Authoritative case law should only be obtained from official court sites. Practical legal information can also sometimes be obtained from the Internet.
