Douglas A Sgarro, the senior vice pres and chief legal officer of CVS Corp, the largest US drugstore chain boasting more than 4,000 stores in 25 states since its $2.8 bil acquisition of R evco D.S. Inc in 1997, has a department of 10 attorneys who focus on real estate, securities, mergers and acquisitions, health care and employment matters. The department has handled much SEC work in view of the company's expansion mode. Only Walgreen tops CVS in drugstore sales and CVS wins out in the number of prescriptions filled.

David C. Fannin, the executive vice pres and chief legal officer of the Sunbeam Corp., maker of a wide range of consumer products, directs a small department of 5 attorneys. Fannin views himself as a moderating influence on the CEO, who has the nickname of 'Chainsaw' Al Dunlap, stating that Dunlap is very high-energy and obviously very demanding. Fannin states that he is a loyal customer with many Sunbeam products at home.
