High Court hi-jinks irk bar; Pennsylvania's justices redefine 'divided court.' (Pennsylvania Supreme Court)
Article Abstract:
Critics charge that the Pennsylvania judicial system has been adversely affected by infighting and scandals in the state's highest court. Even if all the stories are not true, they have gained enough public credence to damage the state's courts. Some attorneys complain about the lack of Supreme Court precedents on certain issues since it is difficult to get a judicial consensus. Voter disapproval has been so great that a constitutional amendment making the judicial disciplinary system public has been approved.

3d Circuit: microcosm of change
Article Abstract:
The Third US Circuit Court of Appeals, once known as a liberal stronghold, has become more conservative as a result of judicial appointments during the Reagan-Bush years. Some claim that conservative appearances can be ascribed to the court's duty to follow Supreme Court precedent, but Judge Dolores K. Sloviter is the only active judge remaining who was appointed by a Democratic president. Cases heard during 1992 reveal a move toward the right.

The 3d Circuit hears Casey again; abortion case comes full circle
Article Abstract:
The US Court of Appeals for the 3d Circuit is rehearing Casey v. Planned Parenthood to determine the constitutionality of the Pennsylvania law under the 'undue burden' standard laid down by the US Supreme Court when it heard the case. Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania requested the rehearing to prove that the Pennsylvania law constitutes an undue burden on women seeking an abortion.
