Achieving the paperless office
Article Abstract:
Dataflight Software's $995 Concordance Information Retrieval System is a sophisticated full-text retrieval system that provides many tools for finding words and phrases within documents. Users must enter documents in the product's database, which accepts files from word processors or from a file editor. A 'convert' feature allows users to add documents from optical scanners or on-line services. After the files are in the database, the add-in Opticon tool allows users to see an image of a document. Concordance's best feature is its search engine, which offers twenty search operators. The operators are grouped in content, Boolean, relational and proximity categories, and fuzzy logic searching allows users to find keywords, even when they are misspelled. Unlike competing products that handle the textual data as a single field in a database, Concordance treats the text as if it had structure, allowing complex searches.
