Intellectual property
Article Abstract:
A green paper aimed at preventing counterfeiting and piracy in the single market is being debated. It proposes improved cooperation between public bodies, development of security and authentication devices, increased penalties and improved consultation. It has been accepted that the EU patents system was too complex and there is support for a single Community patent. The directive on the legal protection of designs has been adopted covering a range of products such as electronic equipment, cars, jewellery and machinery.
