Interest group competition and the Alaska Native Land Claims Settlement Act

The authors discuss the competition among Natives, oil companies, and conservation interests over settlement of claims issues under the Alaska Native Land Claims Settlement Act. The legal and legislative history of Native land claims is outlined and roll-call voting data from Congress is analyzed.

This article discusses new regulations designed to simply requirements for returning environmentally contaminated sites to productive use. The article suggests ways to comply with the new scheme and notes their advantages and disadvantages.
