Internal market and sectoral issues
Article Abstract:
The European Commission (EC) has outlined its work programme for 1998, with focus given to European citizens, relations between the EU and the rest of the world, the Agenda 2000 policy, preparing for economic and monetary union and employment. The EC has urged restructuring and consolidation in Europe's aerospace industry to make it more competitive. On another issue, the operation of the European insurance market is being reviewed to eradicate barriers to a single market. Other issues considered by the EC include border controls, consumer protection, food regulations and intellectual property rights.
