Just how many deaths will it take?
Article Abstract:
The July 1991 shooting deaths of lawyers at San Francisco's Pettit and Martin shows the need for redoubled efforts in the area of gun control. Success in this area will come incrementally and the three fronts on which the battle must be fought are the legislature, the courts and education. The courts are the battle front where lawyers can be most helpful. As to the legislature, four key legislative initiatives are before the Congress in 1993. Those interested in helping with education about the public health hazard posed by firearms can take comfort in the successes of public education about the dangers of smoking.

Dissecting insurance lawsuits; claims litigation presents a challenge to many in-house lawyers
Article Abstract:
Corporate counsel in this litigious age need to be aware of certain basics about the relationship between insurer and insured and of proper tactics during litigation. The difference between 'occurrence' and 'claims-made' policies and their legal ramifications is important, as is monitoring a broker so that broker mistakes will not be held against the insured. Proper steps for monitoring which should be done by the insured during litigation are detailed, as are steps to take in the event of litigation such as records retention.

A guide to minimizing corporate exposure in securities lawsuits
Article Abstract:
Securities fraud cases are most often class actions based on the 'fraud on the market' theory, trying to prove that inadequate disclosure of securities information caused investors to rely on a distorted market price. The undisclosed information must also be material. Liability can arise for inadequate reporting of historical information as well as for predictions. Relations with analysts where inadequate disclosure or disclosure only to favored analysts takes place can also give rise to litigation.
