Klan Act is a tool for today
Article Abstract:
'Bray v. Alexandria Women's Health Clinic,' which the Supreme Court is due to hear in 1992, should determine whether the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871 can be used to curtail illegal anti-abortion protests. Operation Rescue and other pro-life groups have used mass demonstrations to block access to and shut down clinics where abortions are performed. The 1871 law could be used to control such tactics. Unfortunately, the Justice Department is arguing against federal court involvement in the case.

Individual rights upheld
Article Abstract:
The US Supreme Court was expected to dismantle individual rights in cases regarding educational discrimination and abortion in it 1991 term, but upheld both. In US v Fordice, a challenge to the adequacy of anti-discriminatory measures in Mississippi higher education was upheld, maintaining Brown v Board of Education's precedent. Abortion rights established by Roe v Wade were also mostly upheld in Planned Parenthood of Southern Pennsylvania v Casey.
