Labor standards in international trade agreements: the current debate
Article Abstract:
Proposals have been advanced that labor standards should be linked to international trade, which may be seen as a compromise position between free trade and protectionism. The types of standards proposed are generally less stringent than those applied within a developed country such as the U.S. and may involve issues such as prohibiting use of forced labor or child labor. Standards should be negotiated according to criteria of transparency, flexibility and reciprocity, an approach which should allay some concerns about protectionism and the impact on economic growth.

Preparing for the internationalization of U.S. employment law practice
Article Abstract:
Business is becoming international as foreign-owned companies employ more people in the US and US multinationals employ more foreigners abroad, and a need for labor lawyers versed in comparative employment law goes along with this trend. International law issues are affecting US employment law and US-based companies have comparative employment law concerns when operating abroad. Examples of concerns include the extraterritorial impact of US employment discrimination laws and how a multinational can implement foreign labor policy from its US headquarters.

Labor issues in international trade
Article Abstract:
The globalization of economics resulting in the globalization of labor issues is discussed. International business enterprises have gained more unfettered power, while the relative power of governments and trade unions has weakened. The International Labor Organization, regional trade agreements, and industry-wide voluntary codes of conduct are some of the areas mentioned.
