Partnership in practice: the experience of two probation services
Article Abstract:
An examination of two probation service agencies and their collaborative work with private sector volunteers found both parties can work together successfully if the participants are equally enthusiastic and have adequate resources. While both groups brought unique experiences to the project, they were able to function as a whole in meeting the needs of their probationary clients. The collaborations were initially challenging, but differences in practice and similarities in goals proved a strong combination and offered hope for future collaborations between the private and public sector.

Consumer opinions of the probation service: advice, assistance, befriending and the reduction of crime
Article Abstract:
Probation service incorporating rehabilitative strategies and providing a sense of support to the offender can play a strong role in reducing crime and recidivism. A study of offenders' opinions of probation service, in which the offenders were viewed as consumers, found the majority of offenders considered their probation officer helpful, and in some instances crucial in meeting their psychosocial needs and re-integrating them in the community. The study confirms the importance of an agency which provides support and enhances self-esteem for newly released offenders.
