Lack of sleep factors into suits; new trend awakening?
Article Abstract:
Both plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury cases have made increased use of sleep deprivation evidence. Experts also believe such evidence could be useful in medical malpractice lawsuits. Since sleep research has not existed very long, there are no government standards in the area which might help lawyers bolster evidence in their cases. Researchers say sleep deprivation has only recently emerged as a dangerous part of modern life.

Cancer treatment focus of suits; insurers deny coverage
Article Abstract:
Many US health insurers have been refusing to pay bills for the high dose chemotherapy/autologous bone marrow transplant (HDC/ABMT) treatment for advanced breast cancer, arguing that this is still an experimental treatment. Insurer-patient disputes which have reached the courts have had mixed results. Insurance company attorneys argue that it is inappropriate to force them to pay for medical research.

Land holders want a share of pie in take-or-pay suits
Article Abstract:
Litigation in the natural gas industry is entering a new phase as royalty owners claim their share of settlements in take-or-pay suits between producers and pipelines. Take-or-pay suits characterized the industry during the 1980s. Now the royalty owners, or landlords who rented their small properties for well production, seek their share of relief from the natural-gas-price-slump of the 1980s.
