Suits over school financing, vouchers increase
Article Abstract:
Public school funding and educational vouchers are becoming frequent issues in litigation. The increase came after plaintiffs' attorneys started basing their suits on the educational clauses of state constitutions. Approximately 25 states have pending school finance litigation. Washington, D.C.'s Institute for Justice is trying a new kind of educational finance suit, alleging that parents have the right to spend their share of public education funds on private schooling for their children. Time will tell how this approach fares in litigation.

The 'show' case may be gutted; Utah abortion ban lawsuit
Article Abstract:
Pro-choice lawyers are anticipating the passage of abortion bans in many states if Roe v Wade is overturned. After Webster v Reproductive Health Services seemed to give states the power to regulate abortions, Utah was the first to pass a ban. A federal magistrate in Utah has limited testimony in a case pro-abortion activists had hoped to use as a show trial. The Utah ban has been suspended while the legal case is pending.

Making computer searches easier; questions can be asked
Article Abstract:
The West Publishing Co has unveiled a new system called 'Westlaw is Natural' (WIN) which will free lawyers from Boolean search terminology and allow them to search using natural language format. WIN allows users to search by concept, provides a thesaurus and lists documents by degree of relevance rather than in reverse chronological order. West hopes to win away some of Mead Data Central's users with this product.
