Lead data inquiry: effect may be wide
Article Abstract:
Research that has been the basis of several liability suits against the lead industry is under attack. Dr Herbert Needleman's data on damage to children's cognitive processes through exposure to low levels of lead is being challenged by two fellow researchers, Claire B. Ernhardt and Sandra Scarr. Ernhardt and Scarr, who have ties to the lead industry, claim Needleman skewed data to sensationalize lead hazards. A hearing on Needleman's work will be held by his employer, the University of Pittsburgh, Apr 13 and 14, 1992.

The dangers of upholding legal ethics
Article Abstract:
Wieder v Skala concerns a lawyer, fired from his firm for whistleblowing, who is suing for wrongful discharge. This case may be the first in New York or any jurisdiction concerning whether suits by attorneys fired for insistence that their firm meet ethics reporting requirements are barred by the at-will doctrine. Many well-known law professors have filed amicus briefs for the plaintiff.
