Making EDGAR information easier to manage
Article Abstract:
The SEC's EDGAR filing system requires all SEC public filings to be made electronically. Much information is thus made available, but finding things can be difficult. For this purpose, Global Securities Information's Executive Compensation Plan Documents on CD-ROM, published by Glasser LegalWorks, is recommended. Finding things is easy because the product integrates a powerful search engine called Folio, which comes with an excellent introduction called 'The Tour.' Another helpful feature called 'Search Strategies' helps a user formulate query phrases, and infobases include search templates, which can be customized. The Executive Compensation CD accesses almost 10,000 plans and proxy statements, so that searching efficiently is the key to using the program effectively. Glasser LegalWorks' extensive help provisions make it easy to learn how to accomplish this.

Easy graphics creation for presentations
Article Abstract:
Version 5.0 of Visio Corp's $149 Visio presentation graphics software uses the 'drag-and-drop' technique, making it easy for a user to create graphical drawings. The user selects from a set of Stencils and drops a chosen Stencil into a drawing. Dropped shapes can then be formatted or manipulated in different ways. Visio Standard comes with various Stencils, including basic network diagrams, block diagrams, flowcharts, geographical and directional maps, marketing shapes, office layouts, organizational charts, project timelines and TQM diagrams. The standard version also includes 'Wizards,'which facilitate creation of drawings. For legal users, an add-on provides help in drawing accident scenes.
