Merger in the District of Columbia dodges the funding-cut bullet
Article Abstract:
The District of Columbia School of Law and the University of the District of Columbia in Nov formally agreed to a merger, resolving many budget problems that plagued the law school. Both are publicly funded, and the city planned to cut the law school's funding from $4.5 million to $2.5 million. The law school had already moved tot he UDC campus this fall, and fee hikes and cuts in staff will help meet the new budget. The law school will retain its provisional accreditation from the ABA for three more years.

D.C. government budget deficit threatens publicly funded school
Article Abstract:
The publically funded District of Columbia School of Law could be closed as a result of D.C.'s financial woes. Marion Barry, a long-time supporter of the school, may close it to help cut the district's $750 million deficit. The school's budgeting process is always tenuous, as money spent has to be approved by the D.C. City Council, Congress and the President as part of the national budget.
