Out of loss, a lesson for living; staking out personal time in a profession driven by billable hours is key
Article Abstract:
An attorney whose wife battled breast cancer and, after five years free of the disease, lost her life in the ValuJet Flight 592 airline crash in the Florida Everglades, tells how much he learned from this tragedy of the importance of carving out enough time for one's family in life. After his wife's death, he received many letters expressing sadness at her death and telling how she had helped them in their practice or profession. She always took time for both profession and community responsibilities.

Hurry up and wait; crowded courtroom dockets are burdening everyone
Article Abstract:
Various procedural reforms would go a long way toward relieving court congestion and delay. Uncontested matters could be resolved through affidavits rather than live testimony. Motions for relief could be granted automatically when the opposing side ignore filings. Docketing procedures could be simplified and made more convenient. As things stand, the proper motto for courtroom practice is 'hurry up and wait.'
