Troubled verdict on judicial pay; joint bar report cites urgent need to address federal judges' salary crisis
Article Abstract:
An ABA and Federal Bar Ass'n report with evidence of judicial pay erosion and of the raises of comparably placed private sector employees is discussed. Linkage of judicial salaries to those for legislators has historically made them suffer from the failure of Congress to give itself a raise.

New view; ABA adopts new stand on impeachment of federal judges
Article Abstract:
The ABA has decided to cease supporting enactment of a statute with a mechanism other than impeachment for removing federal judges guilty of misconduct from the bench. The organization concluded that there were constitutional questions about the removal of Article III judges by methods other than impeachment. The organization had been urged by the National Commission on Judicial Discipline and Removal to consider supporting a law with a means other than impeachment of removing judges.

Playing by the same rules; measure confirms that federal prosecutors are not immune to state professional conduct regulations
Article Abstract:
Legislation confirming that federal prosecutors are subject to the same state professional conduct rules as all other members of the bar took effect in Apr 99 despite vigorous opposition from the Department of Justice and some members of Congress. The McDade-Murtha Amendment, 28 USC 530B, took effect 6 months after its passage by Congress as part of the omnibus appropriation legislation for FY 1999.
