MDP on deck
Article Abstract:
A New York State Bar proposal supporting multidisciplinary law practice (MDP) is discussed, and this proposal came just as the ABA Commission on Multidisciplinary Practice gave up on a vote at the 2000 annual meeting for the second time in a year. Differences between the ABA Commission and the New York recommendation are discussed.

Presidential lessons; the strategies Bill Clinton's lawyers used to fend off Paula Jones and Ken Starr are classic dos and don'ts even beyond the Beltway
Article Abstract:
Pres Bill Clinton's case and how his lawyers have dealt with it offer lessons for a lawyer's most ethical tactic when suggesting that the client is lying. Physical and documentary evidence and interviews with witnesses can help verify a client's version of events without raising ethical problems. A lawyer mights warn clients their story of events is implausible and chances of victory remote. Clients must be convinced that settlement is necessary once it is obvious the case is a loser or the other side will never change its opinion.

Practice debate heats up; state bar leaders say multidisciplinary plan needs study
Article Abstract:
The ABA's general policy recommendations allowing multidisciplinary practice represent a 180-degree turn from the organization's 30-year-old ban on fee sharing with other professions, but the ABA has not, as yet, taken the step of recommending changes to its Model Rules of Professional Conduct permitting such practice. State bar leaders have found that the commission's definitions of unauthorized law practice do not go far enough.
