Prof. gives students preview of cyberspace; Andrea Johnson teaches her law class the fine points of negotiating by videoconference
Article Abstract:
Andrea Johnson, law teacher at California Western School of Law, makes full use of automation in her classes, using tools including an electronic casebook, e-mail, videoconferencing, Lexis and Westlaw, and the World Wide Web. She divides students into small groups where they negotiate real legal problems, then Johnson has telecommunuications professionals comment on the viability of the students' solutions through videoconferencing. Johnson believes the Internet can be used to mediate issues and reduce the need for litigation.

To firms go the spoils in word war; heated battle between Microsoft and Corel for legal word-processing market leads to tough MIS choices but improved products
Article Abstract:
The Corel Corp, bought WordPerfect, the word processing software used by over 65% of US law firms, in 1996, but Microsoft Corp is trying to penetrate this market share. Microsoft has improved its Microsoft Word to meet the legal industry's demands and as many law firms consider the upgrade from DOS to Windows platforms, a switch in word processing software becomes the next question. A switch from Corel to Microsoft would entail a large investment in time and money.

A former environmental law attorney, Krakaur started his Internet Legal Services in 1995 and provides customized links with periodic updates for law firms.
