U.S. misconduct may upset cases; FBI probes special treatment of witnesses
Article Abstract:
Government prosecution of the El Rukn street gang is in jeopardy because of a ruling by federal district judge James F. Holderman criticizing the lead prosecutor of the gang's drug trafficking case for misconduct and ordering a new trial. Holderman charged the prosecutor with intentionally suppressing evidence that former gang members who turned state's witness used used illegal drugs while in jail. Lawyers for the prosecutor charge bias on the part of the judge.

Lawyers brace for aftermath
Article Abstract:
Lawyers in the Midwest are struggling to cope with the impact of the Mississippi River flooding of 1993 on their business. Some have avoided flooded roads and disabled air conditioning by working at home, while other firms have temporarily set up shop in suburban areas unaffected by the flooding. Some lawyers are providing flood victims with free legal help.
