Radical plan: turn down work
Article Abstract:
Menlo Park, CA's Venture Law Group (VLG) controls work flow with its new-business committee, formed in late 1995 after an internal review of the workload problem. VLG provides legal and strategic advice in exchange for potentially profitable interests in new client companies. The workload at one time threatened to burn out associates and drive them from the firm but the committee reviews for each proposal the industry the potential client is in, who founded the business and what kind of financing is proposed.

Starting a firm from scratch
Article Abstract:
Attorneys wanting to become sole practitioners should do it early enough in their career so they can afford having to start from scratch, depend on those attorneys who have made the jump before and not fear having to ask for financial help from family members. The 2-attorney Florida firm of Taylor and Perez also has an important lesson in bill collection to impart, that clients in cases that have been disposed of feel less urgency to pay bills.
