Read all about them: Supreme Court justices have become popular subjects for biographers
Article Abstract:
A bevy of books about past US Supreme Court justices suggests that readers have developed a taste for legal reading that goes beyond mysteries and thrillers. While some writers and publishers attribute the surge in judicial biographies to dramatic confirmation hearings, others say it is largely coincidence, since such books take so long to research and write. Perhaps most remarkable is the number of books dealing with less prominent justices of up to a century ago.

Whose court is it? Conservatives in search of their own Brennan
Article Abstract:
The new, conservative Supreme Court is lacking a leader, as the previous more liberal court had in William Brennan. Antonin Scalia is often regarded as the most impressive conservative on the court, yet he is not a strong consensus builder, and it is apparent that he and fellow conservative William Rehnquist have not forged an alliance. The remaining liberal justices, John Paul Stevens and Harry Blackmun, play an important role as dissenters.
