Reporting legal misconduct in law firms
Article Abstract:
The New York Court of Appeals, by allowing a law firm to fire an associate who demanded the reporting of a fellow associate's professional misconduct, passed up the opportunity to make professional ethics superior to ordinary employment contracts law. The court in Wieder v. Skala should have carved out an exception to the rule that an at-will employee can be fired for any non-discriminatory reason and created a legal protection for attorneys who are dismissed following the reporting of unethical misconduct. State bars must enact such protections so that attorneys do not have to choose between professional responsibility and job stability.

Desperately seeking daycare; the secret lives of women lawyers
Article Abstract:
There are more services for and societal acceptance of women attorneys with children today, but women in this position still find it difficult to juggle career and family. Some law firms have provisions for part-time employment, but many are still uneasy with this arrangement. Some women attorneys become disenchanted with part-time work, finding it less professionally satisfying. Some attorney-mothers leave the practice of law, finding law professorships easier to combine with family life.
