A decision by the New York appeals court is discussed, and ruled that departing law firm partners who disclose the pay- and billing-rate information of associates to a new employer considering hiring them breach a fiduciary duty to their old firm.

Some law firms are filing tortious interference with contract claims against partners who attempted to solicit the firms' clients before announcing their departures, and the firms are citing noncompete clauses in partnership and employment agreements in their suits. Other than noncompete causes of action, fiduciary duty, tortious interference with contracts, breach of contract and the taking of trade secrets are also possibilities.

Lawyers with well-rounded lives have higher productivity on-the-job cope better with life, have fewer coping symptoms such as depression and alcoholism and also have higher productivity at work. Developing ties with co-workers and enjoying a varied life outside of work can be tricky and may require creatively blending the two. Possibilities include initiating an after-work activity which meets your interests, needs and plans.Building ties and reducing stress can result from pursuing a recreational activity with colleagues.
