Some regulations are put on the 'fast track.'
Article Abstract:
The Bush administration has put regulatory reform for the banking and trucking industries on the 'fast track.' This has been done in concert with Bush's announcement of a 90-day moratorium on issuance of new regulations that would, in the administration's opinion, impede growth. Bush hopes to relax accounting requirements for trucking firms. Several regulations limiting banks from engaging in risky loans are also being pushed. The White House also wants to restrict lender liability for Superfund toxic waste cleanups.

Some feel deja vu on the regulation freeze
Article Abstract:
President Bush plans a 90-day moratorium on new health, environmental and safety requirements to give business the regulatory relief it needs for economic revival. Small business leaders, who have long complained about the burden imposed by excessive regulation, praised Bush's proposal. However, advocates of the regulations say that the Office of Management and Budget already subjects new regulations to enough scrutiny. The moratorium will not apply to rules for which Congress or the courts have set deadlines.

Quayle unveils 'justice reform' legislation
Article Abstract:
Dan Quayle introduced the Bush administration's plan for legal reform with a new attack on attorneys as special interests. The proposed legislation is based on the 'Agenda for Civil Justice Reform in America,' which Quayle proposed at the Aug 1991 ABA meeting. The agenda's proposal for limiting punitive damages has been eliminated, although it will be pursued in a model state bill.
