Survey: students loath to differ politically with their professors
Article Abstract:
A nationwide survey of law students found that many of them are afraid to dissent openly from their professors' political views out of fear of reprisal. In Feb 1991 the ABA's General Practice Section sent 947 questionnaires to student members; about 450 questionnaires were returned. The survey found that 60% of students described some of their professors as politically intolerant. Also, 51% said they did not always feel free to express an opinion different from the teacher's; only 29% said they always felt free to dissent.

Study says time may have come to rethink the socratic method
Article Abstract:
Judge Alice Robie Resnick of the OH Supreme Court chaired the Ohio Joint Task Force on Gender Fairness, which found that women report discrimination and other problems in Ohio law schools. The group advised schools reexamine their programs and place more emphasis on methods that seem to help women more. About 20% of female students said they were sexually harassed in law school, 31% reported sexual discrimination, 40% felt less intelligent since entering law school, and 64% found the Socratic method unhelpful.

ADR in the classroom: the move from more adversarial lawyering
Article Abstract:
A survey of first year law students by University of Massachusetts Professor Ronald Pipkin indicates that those receiving alternate dispute resolution (ADR) training are less adversarial than students in a traditional program. The students surveyed were from Missouri, Oregon, and Indiana law schools with intensive ADR programs. ADR is seen as advantageous as litigation clogs the courts, with many firms hiring ADR specialists.
