Temps use sparks ire in client ranks; some firms are reluctant to disclose markup of rates
Article Abstract:
Firms' use of temporary lawyers to staff cases has grown increasingly controversial as the practice gains popularity, though disclosure and firm mark-up are more important to most clients than the quality of temp work. Estimates of how many lawyers work as temps nationwide range from 20,000 up, and the legal temp market is now a $1-billion industry. Many companies use temporary or 'contract' lawyers as aggressively as their outside counsel do, and while others claim they never do, temps say the practice is widespread.

Women's networking spreads work around: as women advance in-house, females in firms start to see big benefits
Article Abstract:
Women are reaching power as in-house attorneys for corporate America and often reaching out from there to their female colleagues in law firms. Women who leave law firms are more likely than men to take in-house positions, and many have now risen to become corporate counsel. Feeling comfortable with other women, they frequently hire them, refer work to them or network through them in previously unorthodox ways. Most emphasize a distaste for old-boy networks in whatever form, however.

Bills fought at fee hearing; Integrated Resources bankruptcy brings rowdy charges of overbilling in N.Y
Article Abstract:
Presidio Capital Corp, which became Integrated Resources Inc's successor after the latter's bankruptcy, is disputing the $90 million bill for the five years of legal proceedings which preceded that result. Integrated started as a real estate company and used risky junk bonds in a failed attempt to expand into mutual funds and insurance. While the court did not grant Presidio's request for a fee audit, it did eliminate all lawyers' bonuses. The law firms denied all wrongdoing.
