Ten tips for selecting a litigation support vendor
Article Abstract:
Ten tips for finding an appropriate litigation support vendor to help with complex litigation matters are presented. First, attorneys are instructed to anticipate support needs early and allow plenty of time to determine in-house resources and funding availability for potential equipment needs. Second, lawyers must investigate document management processes and technical terminology to make appropriate choices. Next, they should check with colleagues and reputable references who have used litigation support vendors. They should also compare their hardware and software capabilities with a prospective vendors' application, check vendor references, obtain accurate vendor quotes and ensure that vendors provide optimal document security. Attorneys are also instructed to appraise their respective offices to determine if they are equip to efficiently manage litigation functions in-house. Finally, lawyers should consider expanding their computer hardware and software implementations for future courtroom presentations.

Simplified database creation
Article Abstract:
INSO's $299 EasyBase application provides experienced Microsoft Access or Paradox users with an adequate DBMS utility. Although the company claims that EasyBase is targeted at novice database users, minimal database experience is required. The efficient software, however, is insufficiently supported by INSO's user manual, which lacks an index and is virtually useless for answering specific questions. EasyBase does, however, create, file and link documents to be quickly referred to with a simple mouse click. Case information can be organized via customized hanging folders for such information as Motions, Grand Jury testimony and Indictments. EasyBase can store and view most text file formats, including Windows Write and WordPerfect 6.1. EasyBase's AutoLink technology provides automatic linkage between databases without requiring disparate database programming.
