Shopper's guide to litigation support software
Article Abstract:
Seven litigation support applications that claim to offer increased document storage and management capabilities are reviewed. Dataflight Software's Concordance 6.11 is a speedy DBMS package that can search up to 16 databases at one time and costs $995 per single user and $2,000 for ten-user networks. The application, however, is unable to review and annotate depositions and it lacks page and line recognition. Isys-Odyssey Development's ISYS 4.04 is an excellent text search and retrieval software program that is priced at $435 per single user and $1,784 for five users. Although ISYS is not legal-specific, its easy annotations and point-and-click search technique make it a great tool for organizing discovery and deposition transcripts. Summation Legal Technologies' Summation 4.6 is the simplest and most intuitive litigation support program evaluated. It provides quick indexes and searches for evidentiary trial documents. Summation 4.6 costs $995 per individual user and $3,495 for a five-user network.

Efficient time entry
Article Abstract:
Versys' About Time personal information management (PIM) system is an efficient front-end to any billing program that imports ASCII files. While About Time is an incomplete billing application, it effectively captures time work and client expenses. About Time is priced at $125 per timekeeper and a free demonstration version can be downloaded from the company's Web site. Although the PIM enables users to select several default views, its calendar view is what distinguishes About Time from similar applications. Programs can be set to provide daily, monthly and annual billing goals which are displayed daily. This same data is also featured in a daily total summary on the dialog box time entry's right side. About Time also provides strong networking and synchronization functions. Although users must configure About Time to link it with billing programs, its network time tracking capabilities that permit remote entries are beneficial.
