The World Wide Web of financial gerontology
Article Abstract:
The World Wide Web is an excellent resource for information on financial gerontology to be used both by financial planners and their clients. Some of the material requires a fee while other sites are free and sites can be found through a general browser that will most likely find too much or through a structured gateway that helps organize other sites. Specific sites exist for some topics, such as Eldercare Web which includes almost every gerontology issue. The specific sites can be helpful but if they are not adequate, a general browser can expand the search to answer questions.

Article Abstract:
The Boettner Institute's Financial Gerontology on the Internet project pursues three strategies and offers five ways to find relevant information on the Internet. It attempts to locate and verify on-line information of interest to certain financial professionals, it works with other groups, and it invites user participation. The access routes it offers include instructional materials, paths to free information, its own data, and pointers to commercial services. Its address is boettner 'at'ssw.upenn.edu.

Life insurance or long-term care insurance? The changing financial burden of middle-agers
Article Abstract:
Th insurance industry needs to develop new products and market existing ones in a manner that will take advantage of the next big demographic shift. This shift involves a switch in the baby-boomers' major financial responsibilities away from their children, who are grown, and towards their aging parents. Long-term care policies are a frequent option for providing security for the elderly, and the industry should make sure the middle-aged children of the elderly are aware of this and other options.
