Article Abstract:
The UN Commission on Human Rights held its 45th session in Geneva, Switzerland from March 16, 1998 to April 24, 1998. The Commission commemorated the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and assessed the often deplorable current state of human rights around the world. The session's most notable achievement was the adoption of a Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, designed to provide international protection to human rights advocates.
