The future environment for life insurance: a broad view
Article Abstract:
Increased productivity, limited inflation and rapid globalization of finance and business should create an attractive business climate for the insurance industry. However, environmental problems, international conflicts and the aging population combined with low savings rates will have a negative influence on the industry. Increased individual responsibility for retirement income provides an adequate customer pool but educating the public in risk assessment and financial planning is necessary. New products should be created to match consumer demand.

U.S. savings and IRAs
Article Abstract:
The U.S. savings rate for government, business and personal savings has been declining as a result of many factors including the federal deficit, consumption orientation, easy borrowing and the 1980s' high investment returns. This decline is problematic because savings is converted into investment and investment creates economic growth over the long run. One savings incentive program was the individual retirement accounts but the effect on net savings is slight and it costs the government in tax revenue.

The federal budget deficit: needless worries and legitimate concerns
Article Abstract:
The federal budget deficit should not be considered automatically a problem but rather when the deficit fails to correct itself over a full economic cycle, which indicates a structural as opposed to economic cause. Therefore, seeking a balanced budget is not necessary but resolving the problem expenses, largely considered medicare and medicaid, is necessary. A continued and increasing deficit is likely to affect long-term growth though the affect is not direct.
