The lawyer turned peacemaker
Article Abstract:
The various forms of dispute resolution are growing but still subject to much criticism. Arbitration, much-used a decade ago, is waning because of numerous problems. For one, it has a lot of the rules litigation does and so lawyers are free to manipulate and delay the system. In mediation, the parties decide on the method of dispute resolution by talking through their differences. Criticisms of mediation include its lack of self-regulation. An ABA Journal poll shows a wariness of dispute resolution but a preference for mediation over arbitration and traditional litigation.

Baker & McKenzie shelves librarians: library professionals worry bargain-hunting firms will look to outsourcing
Article Abstract:
Law librarians are concerned that Baker & McKenzie's decision to outsource its law library needs will become the trend with downsizing despite the essential services provided by in-house librarians. The American Association of Law Libraries is working to increase awareness of the variety of jobs performed by in-house law librarians such as evaluating new legal research technology and training attorneys to use it. Responses to the Baker & McKenzie decision include an interlibrary loan boycott threat and protests on the Law Lib computer network.
