Timesaving case management system
Article Abstract:
MCSquared Consulting's CaseMate97 legal case management software, a client/server application in Microsoft Access 97, makes it easy to create new case files. The package, which costs $399 per user, automatically formats a case opening sheet and a folder label when a new file is opened, and a conflict of interest feature automatically checks for problems. Contract information is easily cross-referenced and can be accessed without leaving CaseMate, which is useful when information needs to be verified elsewhere. An 'Events' tab tracks court appearances, deposition dates and filing dates, and a to-do list can be generated by person or case name. CaseMate also incorporates a built-in search engine, which lets a user search cases by adversary, case type, date, defendant, judge, plaintiff or venue.

Seize the time!
Article Abstract:
ProSoft's Carpe Diem 2.0 tracks billable time, operating as a time-monitoring front-end to other billing programs. Carpe Diem also generates various types of reports, helping an organization make efficient use of profit areas. For example, a pop up feature displays the total of billable hours on a specified day, letting a user determine how totals compare with predefined targets. Carpe Diem has three parts: CDTracker is a real-time entry system for tracking time; CDEntry is used by a billing department, for capturing data from CDTracker, or from paper entries; and CDMobile lets users enter time into portable computers or remote workstations, so the data can later be uploaded to a database. Carpe Diem 2.0, which works with Windows 3.1, 95 and NT, costs $3,000 for a 10-user license.
