The public doesn't really know if the jurors were actually influenced
Article Abstract:
Former mobster and John Gotti aide Sammy Gravano's testimony in Gotti's 1990 trial revealed that one of the jurors in the 1986 trial, George Pape, was paid by the Gotti camp to sway the jury in the direction of acquittal. In 1992, Pape was convicted of trying to corrupt a jury and faces 10 years' imprisonment. The 1986 fiasco happened in spite of the fact that the jury was anonymous. In this case, anonymity impeded the discovery of a prejudiced juror.
