To upgrade, or not to upgrade?
Article Abstract:
A law firm of 18 lawyers contemplates a computer system update. The firm, which accomplished its last update in 1993, is using WordPerfect 5.1, Windows 3.11 and Novell Netware 3.12. Most of its computers are 66MHz '466 PCs, with the exception of two 75MHz Pentium-based systems operating in the library. Events in 1998 are considered, including the pending release of Microsoft's Windows 98 and the possible release of Windows NT 5.0. The conclusion: strive for productivity and competitive advantage now. Do not wait for rivals or the industry to make such decisions.
